- Because the Savior willingly laid down His life and then took it up again, we will all be resurrected and will live again after we die. Why does His resurrection enable our resurrection? I don’t know. But I’m grateful for the promise that I, and the people I love, will live again after death.
- By subjecting Himself to mortal life, the Savior experienced personally the hardships we face: pains, afflictions, temptations, sicknesses, infirmities. As an omniscient God, why did He have to experience those things in order to know how to succor us? I don’t know. But my confidence in Him is stronger, knowing that He has personally experienced the challenges of mortal life.
- He paid the price for our sins. How can this be? As Amulek points out, “there is not any man that can sacrifice his own blood which will atone for the sins of another…. Therefore there can be nothing which is short of an infinite atonement which will suffice for the sins of the world” (Alma 34:11-12). I understand that I can’t pay for another person’s sins. Why, then, can the Savior pay for mine? I don’t know. But I have felt the relief of having my guilt “swept away” after sincerely repenting of my sins, and I am grateful that He has made it possible.
Today, I will remember the gifts I receive through the Atonement of Jesus Christ: a promise of resurrection, support through my trials, and the ability overcome my sins and be forgiven.
