19 And if there were miracles wrought then, why has God ceased to be a God of miracles and yet be an unchangeable Being? And behold, I say unto you he changeth not; if so he would cease to be God; and he ceaseth not to be God, and is a God of miracles.
20 And the reason why he ceaseth to do miracles among the children of men is because that they dwindle in unbelief, and depart from the right way, and know not the God in whom they should trust.

It is relatively easy to believe in miracles. Did Jesus heal the sick and raise the dead? Did Peter walk on water? Did David defeat Goliath? We might describe these events as incredible or amazing, but we can generally accept at least the possibility that they happened. They are distant enough in time and space to be somewhat disconnected from our everyday experience.
Additionally, if we define a miracle as an event which we cannot explain, it’s not hard to recognize miracles in our own lives, as long as we’re humble enough to acknowledge the limits of our own understanding. How often do events in our lives have the appearance of being coordinated or organized, particularly over a long period of time, in ways that we could never have done ourselves?
As important as these acknowledgements of miracles are, Moroni is encouraging us to stretch further and to develop greater faith. The real question is whether we can believe that God can work miracles in our lives today. Do we believe that He can answer our prayers and send assistance to help us resolve the problems we face right now? That’s where faith becomes real, when we begin to trust God to help us in the moment, not just in general. It has to be personal, and it has to be current, or else it will not sufficiently stretch our faith.
Today, as I face challenges, I will exercise faith in Jesus Christ. I will recognize that He is an unchanging God. If He performed miracles in the past, He can perform miracles in the present. If He has blessed me in the past, He can bless me today.
