To Declare His Word Among His People – 3 Nephi 5:13

13 Behold, I am a disciple of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. I have been called of him to declare his word among his people, that they might have everlasting life.

I am grateful that the Lord sends messengers to teach us. Every six months, members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints gather to hear the word of the Lord as taught by living prophets and apostles. Elder Robert D. Hales explained that Church leaders fast, pray, study and ponder for months in order to ensure that they give the message the Lord wants them to give. Then he explained how members of the Church can gain the most from our participation in General Conference:

We study out in our minds what we need and desire from Heavenly Father, and we pray to understand and apply that which we are taught. As the time for conference arrives, we sacrifice other activities, “lay[ing] aside the things of this world, [to] seek for the things of a better.”Then we gather our families to hear the word of the Lord, as King Benjamin’s people did. (“General Conference: Strengthening Faith and Testimony,” General Conference, October 2013).

Today, I will prepare myself for General Conference by pondering the things I need to know and praying that I might be receptive to the words that I will hear this Saturday and Sunday.
