Foolish and Blind Guides – Helaman 13:29

29 O ye wicked and ye perverse generation; ye hardened and ye stiffnecked people, how long will ye suppose that the Lord will suffer you? Yea, how long will ye suffer yourselves to be led by foolish and blind guides? Yea, how long will ye choose darkness rather than light?

Why would you follow a guide who doesn’t know the way to your destination or who can’t see clearly to lead you there? But how often do we do this? It may be that the person sounds so confident that we think they must be right. It may be that they flatter us and appeal to our ego. It may be that they say what we want to hear, even though deep inside, we know it’s wrong. Or, we may not even be aware that we are following them.
We need to choose light over darkness, which means that we need to choose not to follow “foolish and blind guides” even if they are very persuasive. Today, I will make sure that I am grounded in truth, that I am following the counsel of the prophets, and that I am not allowing the integrity of my decisions to be eroded by the inappropriate influence of others.
